Since childhood I’ve loved to write and it’s a skill that’s been integral to my career. For RVshare, I’m currently researching and writing a series of articles on every state’s top scenic byways. I’m also crafting features for Livability, telling the stories of communities to attract talent, investment and tourism. And, I’m the Editor-in-Chief of Beautiful Byways, showcasing curated itineraries for America’s ultimate road trips.

For my videos, I write every script when possible. Most times this includes voiceover but a lot of my work is also first person, documentary style. So, the trick is gathering strong sound bites from interviewees in a format that can then be woven together into a compelling narrative. Here are samples of my writing for articles, video and TV.

When searching for a new job, people often have their eyes peeled for a position that meets their preferred job title and salary and offers opportunities for skill development and career advancement. However, especially in the last few years, location has become as important – if not more so. Thankfully, St. Joseph, MO, satisfies all of these requirements. [MORE]

If you’ve seen a TV show or movie filmed in New Mexico, you likely remember the dramatic scenery. The landscape becomes another character. Nature is a big part of what makes New Mexico special. Its mountains, rivers, national and state parks, monuments and recreational areas draw in outdoor fans. [MORE]

This story is a set-up for a series of articles I’m writing on every state’s top scenic byways. America’s most beautiful roads can also drive economic and sustainability efforts, but first you have to understand how a byway qualifies for scenic designation. [MORE]

Overlooked and underappreciated, there’s a lot to be discovered in North Dakota. Tucked away in the Upper Midwest, this out-of-the-way state is one of America’s least visited. It’s frequently mentioned as the last to reach by travelers “collecting” all 50. But North Dakota boasts 63 national wildlife refuges, the most of any state. It also has 11 wetland management districts, 13 state parks, a national park and the International Peace Garden. So, if you like the outdoors, North Dakota delivers. [MORE]

I researched and wrote the script, as well as produced and directed the video shoot for The Greater Goods, a one-hour special on companies that give back to the community in significant ways. Toronto’s Me to We Style manufactures sweatshop-free, socially conscious clothing out of eco-friendly fabrics. And half of the profits go to a children’s charity. [MORE]

FareStart was another project for The Greater Goods special. I researched, produced and wrote the script on this Seattle culinary training school which teaches work and life skills to the homeless and others with major employment and personal disadvantages. [MORE]

The case studies I’ve produced are technical and targeted at very specific audiences. It’s fulfilling to take a complicated subject and turn it into a story that passes the critical judgment of experts who are tops in their fields. [MORE]
