THE ROAD AHEAD
RVshare is the top-rated RV rental website, offering the largest nationwide selection. It also gives expert advice, from what to pack and how to park to where to go. I regularly contribute to this video series that profiles the most scenic routes to travel by RV.
From ancient cliff dwellings and historic motels to a meteor crater, friendly donkeys and the Grand Canyon, this is what it’s like to explore Route 66 across northern Arizona. This drive starts at the New Mexico border and runs to the Colorado River and California.
California's Pacific Coast Highway
Made world-famous in Hollywood films and car commercials, California’s Pacific Coast Highway from Morro Bay north to Big Sur and onto Monterey comes first to mind for many road trippers when asked to name America’s most beautiful drive.
Moab is a major tourism hub thanks to nearby Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse Point State Park. With travelers steadily breaking visitation records each year, it’s more important than ever to research, plan and make reservations.
In southeastern Virginia, three distinctly different historic sites lie within miles of each other. And because Yorktown, Williamsburg and Jamestown each played a critical role in the birth of the United States, a visit to this revered trio is unlike any other American road trip.
Arizona's Grand Canyon – North Rim
The North Rim’s remote location and seasonal road closure mean it only gets ten percent of the Grand Canyon’s six million annual visitors. The North Rim also boasts the parks’ highest views and offers hiking, backpacking, biking and, of course, camping.
In a landscape of extremes, Death Valley offers unique, vibrant scenery with relatively mild temperatures in every season but summer. Plus, the park’s enormous size, isolation and limited lodging options make it the ideal RV destination.
To really get a feel for what makes the Sunshine State extraordinary, a road trip into the wild is a must. Connecting Tampa to Miami, the Tamiami Trail – get it? – is the only highway that cuts through the middle of The Everglades.
As our visit to southeastern Virginia continues, we explore Colonial Williamsburg, the world's largest living-history museum. Then, it’s onto Yorktown and more of Colonial National Historical Park, where the last major battle of the American Revolutionary War took place.
