For Ron Nelson, too much of a good thing sprouted an enduring local business. Back in 1964, his original plan was to grow wholesale plants for other retailers at an Overland Park production facility. But after ending up with too many geraniums, he opened his doors to the public to sell the surplus. More than 60 years later, Family Tree Nursery has grown into three retail stores and two greenhouse production farms in the Kansas City area.
